I have a masters in Geology from the University of Kansas

I worked for 13 years with Exxon starting in Production in South Texas.  From there I transferred to Houston to work in Exploration in offshore South Alaska and later back in Production in East Texas.  My last two years with Exxon were in the Marketing Department where I worked in their environmental group dealing with petroleum releases from their underground storage tanks at their retail stores.

I left Exxon and worked seven years in the Atlanta area for a number of different environmental consulting firms.  The last 12 years I have been with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division in the Underground Storage Tank Management Program.  I manage investigations and cleanup of UST releases.

Welcome to what I hope will be an enjoyable and interesting learning experience. I have designed the clinic so that if you do the prerequisite tasks you will leave with a completed ES merit badge. That should be everyone’s goal. Here is what I need you to do.

First get the Merit Badge Book we will use it in class.
Prior to coming to class you should complete the following
requirements.
1 – Make a timeline. This will show me that you at least opened the book.
2 – Define the terms. Again this will show me you read the book and you will know what I am talking about in the class.
6 - Find out about three different careers in Environmental Science. Write your report

Please make sure you bring paper and pen or pencil to class. You will be writing reports in class.

During class we will do the following
3a – Discuss what is a ecosystem

3b – Perform an experiment to test for particulates that contribute to air pollution.
3c – Conduct an experiment to show methods to reduce the affects of water pollution on waterfowl.
3d – Conduct an experiment to show the affects of erosion.
3e – Discuss threatened and endangered species.
3f – Perform an experiment on biodegradable packing materials.
4 – Study an outdoor area and the species found there.
5 – Prepare an environmental impact statement for a hypothetical construction project

As you can see we will have a full schedule but it is my goal to complete all of the requirements we can in class. I will need your help. Please bring what you are supposed to bring and pay attention and we will have a great time.
